It's Doll Show Weekend

It is a super gorgeous weekend here in Iowa. Unfortunately, I will be spending a large amount of time inside.

As I have mentioned before, I grew up going to flea markets and antique shows. When I was in high school, my mom started promoting and running her own shows. She still runs 3 antique shows per year. This happens to be one of those weekends.

So today my family helped set up the tables, set up my mom's booth, and basically get ready for the show. Tommorrow we will start early with checking in dealers and handling problems. When the show opens at 9 am , we take admission and help run my mom's booth. Finally at 3 pm , we get to pack everything up and go home.

It is an exhausting weekend! My mom does this and she is over 70 years old! It is not my favorite activity but what are you going to do, it's family!

The nice thing is that my two kids learn to sell, take admission, and handle customer compliants. We don't use cash registers so they have to figure out the money in their head or write it down. It is the old school way but you really learn how to calculate those numbers.

I hope everyone else has a great weekend too!

What To Do With Old Campaign Signs

Did you have a campaign sign in your yard for the elections on Tuesday? Disney FamilyFun magazine has a great idea of how to recycle those campaign signs.

You can turn the signs into special Birthday signs! Whether you are celebrating a 5th birthday for your child or an "Over the Hill" birthday, this is a wonderful way to keep those signs out of the trash. According to Disney FamilyFun magazine, you just prime, paint, and display proudly. Your kids will love this new tradition and the signs can be repainted and stored for years to come!

A Baking Afternoon

I got in a baking mood today. For some reason, it seemed like fun. I am still working on making yeast rolls but I thought that I would share what I have made so far.

I made corn bread muffins to go with dinner tonight. I going to freeze part of them and keep some for the chili that I am making this weekend. I especially like this corn bread recipe.

Also I have made some Gluten Free Chcolate Cupcakes for my son. This my first time making this recipe. Of course, I can't serve them without taste tasting them! The cupcakes are really good.

Baking days are great for getting ahead on your meals. I feel like I accomplished so much!

The Popcorn Factory Review & Giveaway

The Popcorn Factory has been popping for 30 years! Wow, that is a lot of popcorn. That definitely calls for a celebration and The Popcorn Factory wants you to celebrate too!

The Popcorn Factory allowed my family to sample their 2 Gallon 3 Way Tin of popcorn. When the package arrived, I couldn't wait to try the popcorn. I was hoping to have a few wonderful, peaceful moments alone with my giant tin of popcorn. Alas, I have a teenage daughter that you can't get anything past. She saw me sneaking down the hallway with the tin. She said "Hey, what do you have there" as she looked at me suspiciously. Darn, I thought she was in her room. "Nothing" I mumbled as I walked faster. Too late, she caught me and looked at the tin. She said "You have popcorn!!" and then announced to the whole house "Mom has popcorn!". Alas, I was descended upon by the whole family. The nice thing is that with the 2 Gallon tin there was plenty of popcorn for everyone.

Everyone is my house agreed that Popcorn Factory popcorn was so much better than the popcorn in the tins at the grocery store. It smelled better, tasted better, and was fresher tasting than the other popcorn. The 2 Gallon tin contained butter, cheese, and carmel popcorn. We thoroughly enjoyed our popcorn !

With holidays coming up, this would a great time to see all the gift options at
The Popcorn Factory. You could use it to snack on while decorating your tree, send to a family member who isn't home for the holidays, give it to your college student, or give as a gift to that "hard to buy for" relative. From a personal standpoint, I love getting these kind of gifts in the mail from relatives and friends. It makes me feel remembered and it is a special treat.

Also, in honor of its 30th anniversary and National Popcorn Month, The Popcorn Factory has launched a “30 Gift Giveaway” sweepstakes. The sweepstakes, which runs now through November 23, 2009, will provide one lucky grand prize winner with 30 gifts for their friends and family (up to a $6,000 value) just in time for the holiday season. My Day Has Gotten Better

I was a little grumpy this morning. My kids would probably say I was extremely grumpy. It seems like everything that we own is breaking or in need of repair.

I have not been able to fix the kid's computer. I have spent over 7 hours working on fixes for it. I downloaded anti-malware programs but they have not worked. I cannot get rid of that Personal Guard 2009. I am so frustrated!

On top of that, our Whirlpool front loader washer broke last Friday. It has be broken before but we were doing the unplug and replug in. Before we managed to get it working but not anymore. It is sad that this machine is only 2 years old. The repair guys don't want to touch it. To fix what might be wrong would cost $300 and it may not be what is wrong. So I have been looking at new washing machines.

To top it off, I need a new set of tires for my car. So it seems like money is just pouring out of my budget.

So I was extremely happy to see that I sold 3 items on Ebay! Last night, I finally had gotten around to listing 4 items. Today, I sold 3 of the 4 items! I am so happy. After fees, I will get around $90. It is a great start! So things are looking up!

It is the Holiday season! Time to find just the right gift. As a mom of two teenagers, it can be hard to find something wonderful for them that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

So during the month of November, some of the Moms of Teens Network (MOTNET) will be having reviews and giveaways for items that your teens, tweens, or your whole family can enjoy. I will be having some great giveaways here and I will let you know when the other Moms of Teens are having their giveaways too.

Heather is having a super giveaway on My Red Apron for a 2 lb popcorn tin from the Popcorn Factory. You could use it to snack on while decorating your tree, give it to your college student, or give as a gift to that "hard to buy for" relative. Check out all the details here.
